 2016 Preview 


       Vestavia Hills completed the 2015 season with a 9-3 record. With their 5-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 7A region three, the Rebels earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Vestavia Hills reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Hoover by a score of 24-0.

       The Rebels hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Anderson saw improvement as they won nine games following a 3-7 record in 2014.

       Since 2010, Vestavia Hills has gone a combined 49-24. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 7A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Vestavia Hills has gone a combined 222-82. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 7A and 14th in the AHSAA. The Rebels have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time.

       The Rebels are led by head coach Buddy Anderson who is entering his thirty-ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 320-135 over the past thirty-eight seasons at Vestavia Hills. Under his direction the Rebels have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirty times. They have won sixteen region crowns with Coach Anderson. Coach Anderson has won two state championships at Vestavia Hills, the last coming in 1998.

       Coach Anderson's overall record as a head football coach in thirty-eight season stands at 320-135 (70.3%). His 320 wins rank 1st among active coaches in the AHSAA. He has a 47-28 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches.

       The Vestavia Hills Rebels will play in Class 7A region three during the 2016 season.

       The Rebels should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Rebels open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Homewood on Friday, August 26 at Thompson Reynolds Stadium/Buddy Anderson Field. Last year the Homewood Patriots finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 6A region five. The Patriots lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Clay-Chalkville by a score of 40-39.

       Vestavia Hills and Homewood have met a total of 52 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 31-21-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2015 with Vestavia Hills winning by a score of 41-7.
